The ferry connection to Vormsi has been interrupted indefinitely
The ferry service between the island of Vormsi and the mainland has been suspended due to a technical failure, with services expected to resume next week.
The ferry service connecting the island of Vormsi to the mainland has been halted for an indefinite period, with indications that the first departure might not occur until the beginning of next week. This disruption is due to a technical malfunction with the ferry Ormsö, prompting the Kihnu veeteed company to postpone Friday evening's departure on the Vormsi route. As of Saturday morning, all departures of the Ormsö ferry for the weekend have been canceled.
The cancellations have caused considerable inconvenience, as services on Monday morning are also affected, with specific departures from Sviby and Rohuküla canceled due to the ongoing technical issues. Kihnu veeteed noted that there could be further disruptions on all sailings of the Ormsö ferry related to this malfunction, leaving travelers uncertain about when regular service will be restored.
In light of these challenges, local officials, including Vormsi's mayor Erki Savisaar and Kihnu's mayor Ingvar Saare, have reached out to the government, requesting the opening of ice roads between the islands and the mainland. They argue that current weather conditions are favorable for such measures, aiming to alleviate the transportation problems exacerbated by the ferry service interruption.
