AL: Investigation Against a Known Gold Buyer
A police investigation has started against Gold Store Finland Oy, suspected of fraud related to gold purchases across Finland.
The Finnish police have initiated a criminal investigation into Gold Store Finland Oy, a well-known company involved in gold buying, suspecting the firm of committing fraud. The investigation pertains to transactions made in January at a market in Hämeenlinna, where a woman born in the 1950s sold a collection of gold items. Authorities suspect she was misled regarding the amount of gold involved, and they are exploring whether this could indicate a more widespread issue within the company's practices.
According to reports from Aamulehti, the transactions at the market occurred rapidly. The woman brought a selection of jewelry to the company’s camper van for inspection, and due to the buyer's urgency, the items were not weighed or thoroughly checked before the sale. An expert estimate suggests that the total value of the woman’s gold items was over €11,000 based on gold prices from mid-January, raising questions about the legitimacy of the purchase process used by Gold Store Finland Oy.
The company's CEO, Matias Kerminen, commented that although all items could not be checked in time, the customer was still compensated for the sale. This incident highlights potential vulnerabilities in the gold buying industry in Finland, particularly regarding the transparency and fairness of transactions, as well as the need for regulatory scrutiny in similar operations to protect sellers from possible exploitation.
