Mario Mamić released from prison
Mario Mamić, convicted for illegal money extraction from Dinamo, has been granted conditional release after serving ten months in prison.
Mario Mamić, the son of Zdravko Mamić—who was sentenced last year for unlawful financial activities related to Dinamo football club—was released from prison last Friday. His lawyer, Ivan Stanić, confirmed the news, stating that Mamić met all the conditions necessary for a conditional release, including good behavior during his incarceration and payment of damages to Dinamo. This release comes as the legal proceedings related to him in Osijek continue.
Mamić was sentenced to 16 months in prison and had already served more than ten months, which accounts for approximately two-thirds of his sentence. Conditional release in Croatia can be granted after a convict serves two-thirds of their sentence, provided they demonstrate proper conduct while imprisoned and fulfill the purpose of the sentence, which includes rehabilitation and reparation. Mamić's release suggests that he has complied with these requirements during his jail time.
The case of Mario Mamić and his father Zdravko Mamić has drawn considerable public attention, reflecting the ongoing issues surrounding corruption and financial misconduct in the world of football in Croatia. As Mario Mamić reintegrates into society, the implications of his release, especially in light of ongoing legal proceedings against him, are noteworthy. The case remains emblematic of broader concerns regarding accountability and transparency in sports management.
