Koit Pikaro, a renowned police officer who played a critical role in combating organized crime in Estonia and later turned to politics, has died at the age of 76. He served in the internal security ministry from 1971 to 1996, primarily focusing on criminal investigations. Pikaro gained national recognition in 1993 when he was seriously injured during an armed confrontation with Asso Kommer, a former leader of the Jaeger Company, while attempting to detain him.

After leaving the force, Pikaro became involved in politics, joining the Centre Party in 1998 and serving in the Estonian Parliament (Riigikogu) from 1999 to 2007. His contributions to public service earned him several honors, including the IV Class Order of the White Star and various police merit awards. He was also a member of the Pärnu City Council from 1999 to 2005, underscoring his commitment to local governance and public safety.
