Three members were honored as honorary members of Sleipnir at an event in Selfoss, marking a significant collaboration between the local government and the horse riding club.
The annual meeting of Hestamannafélagið Sleipnir, a prominent horse riding organization in Selfoss, was recently held, where key decisions were made for the future of the club. Mayor Bragi Bjarnason of Árborg and Berglind Sveinsdóttir, the chairwoman of Sleipnir, signed a new five-year service agreement that underscores the ongoing partnership between the local government and the club. This agreement is significant for both parties, promoting equestrian activities and community engagement.
During the event, three individuals were bestowed with Sleipnir’s highest honor of becoming honorary members. These individuals were recognized for their invaluable contributions to the association, which included leadership roles and driving initiatives such as the construction of the riding hall. One of the honored members, Þórdís Ólöf Viðarsdóttir, served as chairwoman from 2010 to 2012 and played a pivotal role during crucial developmental periods for the organization.
This recognition not only highlights the importance of community and volunteer involvement in local clubs but also signifies the growth of equestrian culture in Iceland. As horse riding sports continue to gain traction, partnerships between local authorities and sports organizations like Sleipnir will be crucial for sustaining these activities and enhancing their visibility within the community.
