In the Shadow of Jagušić He Left SHNL. He Debuted and Became a Sensation Everyone Calls
Ante Šuto's journey from playing on lesser-known pitches in Croatia to joining the Scottish Premiership has captured attention following his recent performances with Slaven Belupo.
Ante Šuto, 25, has had a remarkable career transition, having played on a rough field in Croatia's second league just two years ago, to stepping onto a well-maintained pitch in the Scottish Premiership. Starting his youth career with the local club Croatia from Zmijavci, he also played for RNK Split and Hajduk before making his senior debut in 2018. His journey continued as he played for Zmijavci in the SuperSport Prva NL, just a short walk from home, where he made his name by scoring against opponents in the lower leagues.
In January 2024, Šuto accepted an offer from Slaven Belupo, helping the team finish the previous season in the fifth spot of the SHNL, narrowly missing out on a place in the UEFA Conference League qualifiers. His decision to stay with the Koprivnica club saw him shine in the current season, where in 18 matches, he managed to score four goals and provide six assists, making him one of the top performers in the league. His impressive performance soon caught the attention of Scottish club Hibernian, who expressed interest in his transfer.
With Hibernian keen to sign him, they returned with an offer of 500,000 euros during the winter transfer window, highlighting Šuto’s rapid ascent in his football career. This potential move signifies the growing recognition of Croatian talent abroad and the opportunities available for players showcasing their skills in competitive leagues, marking a significant step in Šuto’s professional journey.
