To mark the onset of the XXV Winter Olympic Games in Milan Cortina, an initiative led by the Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum in collaboration with the city of Tartu has resulted in three bridges and one viaduct being illuminated in Olympic colors starting from February 6. The dynamic light display is showcased on the Kaarsild and the Western Ring Road viaduct, while the Olympic colors are presented statically on the Rahu and Turu bridges. In addition to the visual spectacle, the Olympic anthem is played on the Kaarsild bridge daily at specific times following the conclusion of the town hall's bell chimes.
This lighting and anthem activation will continue until the closing of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics on February 23, providing both locals and visitors with a festive atmosphere that celebrates the spirit of the Olympics. Siim Randoja, a member of the Sports Museum's board, emphasized the significance of the Olympics as the world's largest sporting event and expressed the museum's pride in bringing a piece of this global event to Tartu.
Randoja also highlighted the collaboration with the city of Tartu to enhance the visibility and experiential aspect of the Olympic movement within the city. Tartu, home to the Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum, is portrayed as an ideal location for such activities, aiming to create a lasting impression of the Olympic legacy among locals and visitors alike.
