Iltalehti has published a new series of 'woke' tests that are grounded in recent research exploring the attitudes of both the left and right regarding woke culture. The tests were developed by Oskari Lahtinen, a specialized researcher from the University of Turku, who crafted questions designed to measure various perspectives on woke ideology from both ends of the political spectrum. The research included a survey with over 600 participants, highlighting the emergence of right-wing woke sentiment, a concept that gained significant media attention in 2025. Lahtinen noted that the right-wing woke ideology was only clearly defined in public discourse after American identity politics began to be analyzed in mainstream media early in 2025. Until now, there had been no established metric to evaluate or understand this phenomena, making the surveys he developed particularly relevant. With the new tools, researchers can explore how individuals align with woke attitudes, whether left or right, which has implications for understanding political identity in Finnish society. This study reflects a broader trend in contemporary political discourse where concepts of identity politics and cultural awareness continue to evolve. The findings may influence how political parties position themselves as they navigate these ideological landscapes, particularly leading up to the 2025 municipal elections in Finland, where Lahtinen himself is a candidate for the Greens.
