Stasys Baranauskas, a renowned footballer of the Lithuanian club 'Žalgiris', has died at 63 after a four-year battle with a brain tumor. The sad news was confirmed by his former teammate, Rimantas Turskis, highlighting the impact Baranauskas had in the football community and the deep loss felt by many following his death. Baranauskas was diagnosed with the severe illness in 2021, which ultimately led to his passing, marking the end of a courageous fight against this treacherous disease.
Baranauskas started his football journey at the Panevėžys sports school and went on to play for various teams, including the Panevėžys club and the Lithuanian youth national team. He became a beloved member of 'Žalgiris' in Vilnius for nine years, where he celebrated significant accomplishments, including winning the World Universiade in 1987 and earning a bronze medal in the USSR Championship.
